FAQ

What to know before your first appointment.

A few practical details are listed here. If your situation is personal or medical, Emily can talk with you privately by phone or email.

Do you accept walk-ins?
No. Emily’s practice is appointment-only. Email or text with your name, contact information, and requested time frame. Emily will respond within 24 hours.

What forms of payment are accepted?
At launch, cash, check, and Venmo are accepted. Need-based discounts of up to 50% may be considered in qualifying circumstances.

What is unique about Emily’s style?
Emily may ask for a more detailed medical history and will protect your health and social information with the same care she used as a physician. She continues her massage education and does not limit effective work to labels such as “Swedish” or “deep tissue.” Gentle techniques can be effective for restricted fascia and muscle.

Is this medical treatment?
No. Emily brings a medical-informed perspective, but massage sessions do not include diagnosis, prescribing, or medical treatment. She may recommend that you consult another healthcare professional when appropriate.

Where are appointments held?
Emily practices in New Bern. Location details are confirmed when an appointment is scheduled. Select local home visits may be considered for people who are homebound by serious medical conditions.

How much do I need to undress?
Only to your comfort level. Draping and privacy are respected throughout the session. Massage can be performed through sheets and underwear, while some areas may be treated more precisely without clothing if you choose. Thai massage is performed fully dressed without lotion or oil.

What could cause a therapist to end the relationship?
Therapeutic massage is professional, not sexual. A mismatch in style, personality, scheduling, or location may mean the practice is not a good fit. Repeated last-minute cancellations, late arrivals, or disrespect for each other’s time may also end the relationship.
